Program Notes

April 23 - Keeping Your Knives Sharp

Four instructors (Lee, Robert, Adelle, Barbara) will each work with a small group of members on using strops to keep your carving knives sharp. Bring your knives and strops and prepare to work -- this is a hands-on program for you to get lots of help in maintaining your knives. It will be a learning experience for new carvers and a review of proper technique for experienced carvers.

May 5 - Quincy Fest

Capital City Carvers will have four members at the Gadsden Arts Center with displays of their carvings and demonstrating woodcarving. Art Mamott, Robert Christian, Craig Kittendorf and Barbara Mann will demonstrate from about 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Another member, Elvin Keever, will be demonstrating woodtuming. Come see us in action.

May 14 - Natural Finishes for Woodcarvings

This program will explain and demonstrate almost everything you need to know to put a natural finish on your completed carvings. Barbara will discuss and demonstrate using lacquer, and Lee will do the same with shellac. This program will be important for new carvers and a good review with opportunities for learning new things for experienced carvers.

May 19 - Saturday Workshop - Carving a Bear

Barbara Mann will lead a workshop in a picnic shelter at Lake Ella from 9 a.m. to about 4 p.m. on carving a brown bear. Cost: $10 payable to Capital City Carvers, plus cost of cutouts ($4 to $8 depending on size chosen) payable to Barbara. Examples will be displayed at the May 2nd meeting. All cutouts will be in butternut wood. Sign up by May 14 or call Barbara by May 17 so she will have enough cutouts ready.

New Club T-Shirts are Here

The new club T-shirts are in. If you placed an order please pick up your T-shirt at a meeting. Craig ordered a few extra T-shirts in popular sizes. The shirts are forest green with a cleaned-up logo in white -- big on the back, small on front. See Craig. Cost: $14.
