The Florida Woodcarvers Roundup
Bahr's Mobile Home Park, Zyphyrhllls, FL http://webspace.webring.com/people/qj/jeodea/ A woodcarvers roundup provides an opportunity to bring carvers and instructors together for a few days of carving and socializing. The objective should be to take classes from several differing instructors during the roundup with the idea that you will learn many new techniques and skills as opposed to returning home with all finished projects. Many of the projects offered as a one day class could take more than one day to complete, but, in that day, you can learn the techniques needed to finish the project at your own pace. This is a great opportunity to sample new instructors and different types of carving. The Florida Woodcarvers Roundup has moved to a new site in Zyphyrhills. It is located on Rt. 54, about 1.3 miles east of the SR 301 and Rt 54 East intersection. [Map] You bring your tools, a mat for the table top, money, and favorite comfortable chair. Tables are provided. RV sites and campsites are available at Hillsborough River State Park but were full by Jan. 11 last year. The Microtel in Zyphyrhills is providing a group rate but you must call for reservations. Details are on the web site. Workshops start at 9 a.m. and end about 4:30 p.m. with an hour for lunch. Lunch service will be available at the park. There are two types of costs involved for the roundup. The first, the cost of organizing the roundup (facilities, canopies, equipment, supplies and advertising), is what you contribute to at $6 a day when you register for the roundup. The second is the class costs which you pay diretly to the instructors. There are two registration options: pre-registration (on-line or by mail) for as many day as you want and be assured of a seat in the class; OR daily registration when you arrive and select from the classes open then. Pre-registation is the best option as class requests can be changed up to March 15. Pre-registration on-line can be paid through PayPal. See the web site for more details. Visitors and non-carving companions need to register when they arrive as everyone must sign a Bahr's "Hold Harmless Agreement" and carvers given a name badge. Activities for non-carving companions include a quilting class, a watercolor class, and possibly others. This is a quick description of the classes. Detailed information is available on the web site. A print version is available at club meetings to look at.
